Macfrut 2023 presented in Zimbabwe and South Africa

0

The presentation of Macfrut in Zimbabwe was attended by two Ministers: Anxious Masuka, Minister of Agriculture, and Sekai Nzenza, Minister of Industry.

Presented in the capital city of Harare, the 40th edition of the international trade fair for the fruit and vegetable sector was attended by Umberto Malnati, Italian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Antonella Marucci, Regional Director of ICE – Italian Trade Agency, and Paolo Enrico Sertoli, Head of Office at the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), along with about 90 sector professionals, association representatives and banking institutions.

This event was organised in collaboration with Zimita, the association promoting bilateral cooperation initiatives between Italy and Zimbabwe.

Having attended the last two editions of the trade fair, Zimbabwe will also participate in the upcoming edition, to be held at the Rimini Expo Centre from 3 to 5 May, with a large delegation of companies. Sector professionals from this country, which produces blueberries, avocados, tropical fruits and horticultural crops, are especially interested in purchasing technology in order to develop crops for the regional and national market.

As part of the presentation, the Zimbabwean authorities hosted a small exhibition of horticultural crops and spices grown by local companies. The trade mission is still underway with visits to several commercial farms and packaging warehouses in Zimbabwe, and was preceded by a trip to South Africa where Macfrut was presented to local associations and entrepreneurs. South Africa has also confirmed its participation in the 2023 edition of Macfrut.

‘These were the last two trade missions in the international tour with in-person presentations of Macfrut held in 20 countries around the world, which included Central and South America, Africa and Eastern Europe,’ explains Renzo Piraccini, President of Macfrut.

‘It was a huge effort, which shows just how much this trade fair is growing internationally thanks to ICE-Italian Trade Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) and several international bodies and institutions. The diversity of Macfrut was acknowledged and appreciated by all: it is not only a business trade fair, but also an opportunity for sharing knowledge and networking that brings many countries together. This is our strength and is what makes us stand out.’

Africa food sustainability summit

The Africa Food Sustainability Summit is a high-level conference and expo that defines the future of sustainability in Africa’s food and agriculture supply chain sector – from farm to fork.

The Summit provides the platform for key stakeholders in the food and agri sector to learn, share, engage and network, while discovering new opportunities, practices, technologies and trends that they can adopt to enhance the sustainability agenda in their businesses and communities.

This ground-breaking pan-African Summit is the largest gathering of investors, C-Suite executives and other key decision makers from the private, public, non-profits and academic/research institutes in the food and agriculture value chain with a focus on the broad subject of sustainability in the food and agriculture value chains in Africa.

The need for a more sustainable food and agriculture sector in Africa has come into sharp focus following the massive disruptions brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russian-Ukraine war and conflicts in a number of African countries, which have led to high food prices and general disruptions in supply chains across the Continent.

The Summit provides the perfect platform to discover and learn from some of Africa’s leading start-ups, conglomerates and multi-nationals; Government agencies and NGOs/development partners; and universities and research institutes about the latest practices and technologies to mainstream sustainability in Africa’s food and agri sector.

At the Summit, the food and agriculture industry stakeholders will be looking at more than just availing more locally-produced, nutritious food to Africa’s growing population, but also how to urgently create more prosperous, just and stable local societies and economies; accelerate renewable energy transition; boost cleaner and circular economy initiatives and other sustainability related topical issues – with urgency and scale across Africa.

This Summit forms part of our AFRICA FOOD INDUSTRY WEEK, which also consists of the following events on the food and agriculture industry in Africa: Africa Food Safety & Nutrition Summit (June 14-17, 2023), AFMASS Food Expo (June 15-17, 2023) and the Africa Food Awards (June 16, 2023).

Precision planting announces New Data App for farmers

Precision Planting today revealed their newest product, Panorama, which helps farmers utilize the data from their 20|20® monitor. Panorama was announced during the first day of the company’s annual Winter Conference.

“At Precision Planting, we Believe in Better for farmers,” said Bryce Baker, marketing manager, Precision Planting. “That means pursuing excellence in everything we do, and our annual Winter Conference is an example of this commitment.”

The event, which will repeat sessions daily through Friday, typically hosts more than 5,000 attendees at the company’s Tremont headquarters and remotely at 21 other locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Attendees have the opportunity to learn more about planter maintenance, the importance of emergence, and see the results of the company’s latest plot research that challenges the status quo in farming practices.

Panorama Field Data App

Data collection and utilization continues to help farmers increase on-farm efficiency. Panorama by Precision Planting helps farmers better utilize collected data by allowing for easy uploads to the platform of their choice. Panorama allows farmers an unobstructed view of the data collected in their cab, whether on the app or through moving data to the platform of their choice.

“The 20|20 monitor provides the most complete and clear agronomic picture of a farmer’s field, and farmers should be able to easily access that data in the platform of their choice,” said Justin McMenamy, Vice President of Disruptive Products. “Panorama features an API that allows other industry data platforms to create a connection to the Precision Planting system, allowing the data to flow seamlessly from the 20|20 monitor to any platform that has a connection with us.”

Panorama will feature map viewing, reporting, and the ability for a farmer to allow their Precision Planting dealer to provide remote technology support. Panorama will be beta tested in the spring of 2023, in the United States and Canada, with further release plans available later in 2023. Once released, Panorama will be offered through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as well as through a browser-based experience.
